Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do, so throw off the bowlines, sail away from safe harbor, catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore, Dream, Discover. –Mark Twain
This says it all for me. I’m 56, time is running out. With some good fortune and healthy living I have another thirty to forty years in me but every year spent being disappointed about what I didn’t do will take it’s toll. My body will breakdown and make some things harder to do. Years of being beaten down by the man will have a deadly effect on my physche. I will regret that I didn’t save the world or build that better mousetrap that I could see in my mind. Or, I could get off my ass and live life on my own terms.
Just a couple posts ago I talked about the addiction of a regular paycheck. Well, I am being tested right now. I am pursuing my goals and shunning the regular paycheck but lets face it, in reality we have to have some income to survive right? I have a tiny business renting trucking and lighting gear to the film industry. My goal is to keep my physical effort to a minimum so naturally my income will be proportionally restricted. As in any business I have to make investments in gear, repair things, store things, insure things etc. Currently those things are a little overbearing so I am getting nervous. I have to be strong to beat this regular income addiction. I guess we are all tested from time to time.
Tony Robbins is known to say “change your story, change your life”. It all boils down to what we tell ourselves. The law of attraction comes into play here, we become what we think about. Napoleon Hill, author of Think and Grow Rich says “Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.”
I could come up with lots more motivational quotes but the truth is, it has to come from within. One must believe in oneself, regardless of your age, regardless of your past, regardless of your socioeconomic status, regardless of what others may think, regardless of what society says. Follow your own path and remember, you don’t have to be perfect. Nothing is perfect. Progress is what matters. No stagnation here, live, grow, contribute, inspire, motivate and give until the day you die.
